( CHARACTER INFORMATION )

Name/Work Name: Okami Amaterasu / Harugami
Canon: Okami
Canon Point: Postgame, a little before Okamiden
AU/CRAU: N/A
Age: OLD AS BALLS
History: Big ol' wiki page
Personality: First off, Amaterasu does not express herself through words or thoughts, but through her actions. Excited to see someone? She'll wag her tail and bark in a friendly manner. Feeling guilty or sad? Ammy will lower her head, flatten her ears and whine. Angry? Growl and take a battle stance. Any more than that on her mind will ONLY communicate to Celestial Envoys, such as Issun and Ishaku.

Amaterasu shows endless kindness and loyalty to her friends, and will be happy to help them out whenever she can. For her, "friends" mean anyone without evil in their hearts. She doesn't care what they call her or how they generally treat her, although free food and pettings are nice. Even if someone doesn't have divine beliefs or think she's anything special, she'll do everything in her power to keep them safe from evil, because she thinks it's just the right thing to do. She has a special admiration for those who fight to protect those dear to them-- as the goddess of the land which she roams, she herself feels obligated to look after her people.

As for those who would do harm unto others for no good reason, Amaterasu has a very strict no-tolerance policy, and that policy is usually a battle. Because this almost always applies to demons and she promptly slays them, she won't know what to do if a human displays such behavior.

Amaterasu is somewhat impulsive, possibly because of Issun's encouragement to rush headlong into whatever lies ahead. She often will curl up and try to nap if someone is talking for her for too long, either because she's got a short attention span or she knows the information already. She's a woman... er, wolf of action, after all. "Fear" is a foreign concept to her. She is, however, sensitive of her flaws (according to Issun) and is easily offended (by Issun, usually)

Amaterasu is not the kind of god whose only command is "Fondly regard creation." She likes to have an active role in her world, sticking her nose where it doesn't really belong wherever she can. Any one village's problems also become her problems, and she assists them. She doesn't see the point in being called a god if she can't take a part in the world she presides over.

The other Brush Gods and some characters address Amaterasu as "origin of good and mother to us all." Indeed, she's very nurturing towards people, and tries to be a good role model. She believes in working for the greater good, regardless of whether or not there's a reward. Praise is certainly nice, and restoring someone's faith in the gods is certainly welcome, but it's not necessary. It's very rewarding to her when she sees others follow this example.

Above all, Amaterasu values resolve, for without it, any goal or accomplishment would be meaningless. She believes that no matter the outcome, the most important thing is the effort you put into a task, and the willpower to see it through to the end.

Debt: Ammy's wish is for the strength to restore the Celestial Plain (Takamagahara) to its former glory. She's having trouble doing it on her own.

Previous Game Info: N/A

Inventory: this one's a doozy.
- The Celestial Brush, which cannot be confiscated as it's actually Ammy's tail!
- All 5 Reflectors. Divine Retribution is the Divine Instrument that brought Amaterasu back to life from a statue of her likeness. The only time it's NOT on her is when her power has been siphoned and she is transformed into an ordinary wolf. Her previous incarnation, Shiranui, also had a Divine Instrument (Solar Flare), and so presumably she needs at least one of the Instruments on her "person". Without it, she will be unable to do any of her duties as a worker.
- All 5 Rosaries.
- All 5 Glaives.
- A variety of Holy Artifacts: Golden Lucky Cat, Peace Bell, Golden Ink Pot, and Fire Tablet. The Fog Pot was returned to Kasugami after acquisition, so while she did purchase it, it's not in her possession when she arrives at Koriko.
- A full Astral Pouch.
- Some Holy Bones (health-restoring single-use items) of varying intensity.
- A few Vengeance Slips. (damage-deflecting single-use temporary effect items)
- A few Steel Fist/Steel Soul Sakes. (single-use temporary effect strength/defense-boosting items, respectively)
- A few Inkfinity Stones. (single-use temporary effect unlimited ink-granting items)
- Lots and lots of Demon Fangs.
- Lots and lots of yen.
- A sapling offshoot of the sacred tree Konohana. Please plant it somewhere safe.
- Wolves don't wear clothes. That'd be weird.

Abilities: A LOT, she's a god ok
Without her Divine Instrument or holy powers:
- Headbutts.
- Kicking and biting attacks.
- Jumping.
- Dodging.
- The ability to dig through very tough soil.
- The ability to fall from great heights unharmed.
- Very sturdy. Can carry full-grown men on her back
- Mind-reading, sort of-- she can usually tell someone's mood and if they have something to say.
- Golden Fury-- the name of an "attack" that insults foes. You can probably guess what it entails.

With her Divine Instrument and holy powers:
- All Celestial Brush techniques, sans Guidance and Magnetism.
-- With her power newly restored, she can also access all secret Brush techniques.
-- The Ink Bullet technique is granted by a few select Divine Instruments. It isn't very strong, though...
-- In addition to all listed abilities, she can cover friend and foe alike with ink. Have fun with that.
-- As a demon dies, if a specific Brush technique is used on it, it results in a Floral Finisher.
- A set of combo attacks unique to each Instrument class.
- With a Reflector in her secondary Instrument slot, the ability to block an attack, and in some cases the ability to grab an attacker with it, leap into the air and fucking piledrive them.
- Wall-jumping.
- Double-jumping.
- Running faster. Flowers will spring up periodically in accordance with her steps.
- Full sprint, for as long as she likes. She can do this even with someone on her back! And flowers sprout up behind her in a trail.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths:
☼ Amaterasu is a god. She has many, MANY abilities that let her manipulate the area around her, banish demons, and purify the land.
☼ Amaterasu is generous. She earns a lot of yen from the demons she slays and from selling treasures, and she uses them to support local merchants and sometimes donate to Divine Springs, to enhance the strength of the other Brush Gods. She also buys feed bags for animals she encounters on her travels, and valuable items for certain people who can't afford them.
☼ Amaterasu is intelligent. She's able to scope out weak points on enemies and how to expose those spots for attack. She can also detect hiding demons and demons in disguise.
☼ Amaterasu is compassionate. She goes out of her way to interacting with people, spirits and animals and try to help them as best she can, from delivering medicine to helping catch fish to returning stolen items. She's always willing to lend a helping hand. The Praise she gets for it is just an added bonus.
Weaknesses:
☀ Amaterasu cannot/does not speak. On her travels, she allowed her Poncle companion Issun (and 100 years prior, Ishaku) to speak for the both of them, can give yes or no answers through him, and can transmit very short thoughts to him if she needs to communicate something. Without her Poncle companion, she relies on body language and wolf noises.
☀ Amaterasu cannot enter areas affected by a strong curse. She can, however, enter areas with a weaker curse affecting them (such as the one in Kusa Village), but is unable to use the Celestial Brush, and her Ink will be siphoned gradually, leaving her a mere wolf until the one who cast the curse is exorcised.
☀ Amaterasu's strength relies on belief in her. This would work to her advantage, as across Nippon and Kamui she now has many believers that restored her to full strength, but not as many in Koriko (at least, among the workers. I'm sure there are shrines in her name). If the people were to lose faith, her power would wane.
☀ For that matter, Ammy's true form cannot be seen by most. If someone doesn't have a belief in the gods or in Amaterasu, all they'll see is a white wolf with a black-tipped tail. Animals, spirits, most demons, and children appear to be able to see her true form unconditionally.
☀ Amaterasu cannot swim. She relies on the lily pads she draws to cross large bodies of water. She can doggy-paddle a short distance, though.
☀ Amaterasu is impulsive. She sticks her nose where it doesn't belong (gets involved in EVERYBODY'S business) and takes risks without much thought (ripping the Dragon Orb out of the Water Dragon's body at any cost).
☀ Amaterasu cannot interfere with fate. If her prophet dictates that she cannot slay Orochi until the chosen one, Nagi, is born, she will just have to wait 100 years until she can strike the beast down with his help, regardless of what that means for her own reputation.

( SAMPLE )

Characterization Sample:

Only a few months had passed since Yami's defeat by the sun goddess, yet Amaterasu felt she was no closer to restoring the Celestial Plain than she had when she first arrived at her homeland. Having to work alone didn't help. Sure, Waka was good company, but she longed to be around more of her friends. Sakuya, Susano, Oki... Issun...

And so the god found herself on the mortal plane once again, just to check on things. She couldn't let Issun know, or she'd never be able to shake him off (literally) once it was time to go home. It was lonely, but there was peace to be had in this part of the world. Perhaps she'd pay a visit to Himiko's grave later, if the guards remembered her. If they didn't, she'd just Veil of Mist her way in.

She paused, scanning the skies. The sun wasn't visible at the moment, but that could be easily fixed. With a swish of her tail, the sun shone bright once more. The wolf sighed, feeling the warmth against her fur, and looked around. The sunlight shining through the leaves of the forest made such beautiful patterns on the ground, swaying in the breeze. There was beauty to be found in the simplistic things, she thought.

Sniffing the breeze, she caught the scent of smoke in the air. Was something cooking, or was it malicious demons at work? Or maybe it was just a forgotten, burning pile of leaves. Ammy seemed to find those a lot on her travels. She headed for the source, using her nose as a guide. It wasn’t long before she found it, either— some red and green imps gathered around a bonfire, some playing music, some drinking sake; one trying to do both at the same time, and not very well. She approached quietly, so as not to alert the demons to her presence.

Amaterasu was torn. It was her duty to purge the world of evil, and imps were certainly manifestations of said evil, but… they weren’t doing anything at the moment. In the Moon Cave, the imps were content with their respective duties, and passionate about them. She wondered what happened to Ajimi, the imp chef she collected ingredients for. He probably could have been repurposed for a life in the human world, cooking up slightly less gross things… probably. That was, if he managed to escape the Moon Cave before its collapse, anyway.

The god was interrupted from her thoughts when one of the imps turned just enough to spot her and called her out to the others, who quickly abandoned their festivities and prepared to fight. She was quick to respond in turn, and with a growl, she charged in.

Just like old times, she thought.
